My Etsy shop is only 2 hearts short of 100! I can’t believe that many people have favorited me. Well, I can, but it’s still so exciting!

A few new items have been added to the shop over the last few days. I’ve been in the middle of glazing a bunch of stuff for days but have been a bit stuck in a rut due to my housemate moving out, and all the general turnover and confusion and unexpected tasks that added to my life. Things are starting to settle down, though, so I’m hoping to get that stuff fired within the next couple days. In the meantime, new stuff:

Busy Times

I’ve been working on a lot of little odds and ends lately, some in my crafting, some in my personal life, and some in that grey area between the two. I have several things I’ve been meaning to write about–including some interesting ceramic and kiln experiments I’ve been doing; my merry little forays into finding handmade alternatives for some of the things I use every day; and about the awesome experience I’m having right now courtesy Etsy’s Alchemy feature and the requests I’ve posted there.

But tonight I am tired and have to get up in 4.5 hours, so I’ll just do my “newly added” spiel:

Adaptation

Today I found out that the post office that’s walking-distance from my apartment is going to be removing its APC (Automatic Postal Center), which is the machine I generally use to send all my packages, so that I can avoid the terrifying lines for the human clerks. I don’t know why they’re removing it, but I do know that it’s not worth my time to wait in the aforementioned lines, especially not now that they’re going to be even longer without the APC.

This means I’m going to have to either take the bus or drive to the next-nearest post office, to use their machine. Which means extra expenses for bus tickets and/or gas, which…will probably end up getting passed on to my customers. Right now I’m thinking it may be easiest to raise my shipping charges (which I’ve kept as low as possible up until now) but $0.25 or $0.50…but I may instead be recalculating the price structure for my products.

Meanwhile my dad, who’s a chemical engineer, has come up with what I’m hoping will be a huge improvement on my current system of suspending beads by high temperature wire in order to glaze fire them. More on that when I’ve had a chance to test it out!
